Love, Death, Poe, and Lovecraft. A couple shows opening this weekend 10/6 & 10/7

On Friday, October 6th 6-9pm, Modern Eden Gallery opens its show, Loved to Death. The show is co-curated by Audra Kunkle, owner of San Francisco‚Äôs infamous Loved to Death curiosity shop that was featured on the Science Channel’s television show, Oddities. Loved To Death started out as an art endeavor making Victorian-themed anthropomorphic taxidermy dioramas and jewelry and now specializes in odd antiquities and Victoriana. You can expect dark-themed artworks inspired by oddities, antiques, taxidermy, memento mori, natural history, crystals, and skulls.

The show features Ransom & Mitchell, Jackie Gallagher, Anke Fachmann, Gillian Keller, Sheri DeBow, Syd Bee, Megan Buccere, Mary Syring, Vahge, Mel Alves, Daniel J Valadez, Aunia Kahn, Hilary White, Lara Dann, Sybiline, Dave Richardson, Catherine Moore, Tracy Lewis, John Walker, Avery Palmer, Rebecca Adams, Phillip Hua, Adam Caldwell, Kai Carpenter, David Natale, Brian Donnelly, Lori Nelson, Steve Lawson, Bethany Krull, Johnie Thornton, Scott Holloway, Brandice Guerra, Ron Norman, Lacey Bryant, doubleparlour, Jaclyn Alderete, Amy Ahlstrom, Lee Harvey Roswell, Caitlin McCormack, Erica Calardo, Michael Ramstead, Jasmine Worth, Peter Palfi, Steve Javiel, Ben Patterson, Henry Schreiber, Delphyne V., Amandalynn, Terry Ribera, Alec Huxley, Daisy Church, & me. Modern Eden is located at 801 Greenwich st. San Francisco.

On Saturday the 7th, Oakland’s Faultline Artspace opens Tekeli-Li, an art show inspired by the macabre/horror masters, Edgar Allan Poe and H.P. Lovecraft. “Tekeli-Li” is a mysterious cry used in stories by both Poe and Lovecraft. Its meaning has never been revealed. My piece pays tribute to both authors, using Poe’s raven with a nod to the fictional town of Arkham, Massachusetts. A prominent location in many Lovcraft stories.
